They made it an easy transition from going from class to online as it was a jurassic change for all of us. When the pandemic hit all the teachers were super helpful and understanding about the circumstances families were going through. Walking around the campus was easy to find the classes and they had good taco trucks on campus! I attended VC for 5 years and always felt at home. Junior: VC was an amazing JC to attend they really cared about their students and made you feel welcomed! All the teachers and counselors were super helpful.
Since the school is in the city, buildings are scattered with free shuttles to move between class and dorms. As an artist your homework is always going to revolved around creating more assets for your portfolio or practicing skills to contribute to your profession. Standard full-time schedule is 4 classes a week (each class is 3-6hrs long). This is the only school that I went to, and compared to my friends the attendance policy is relatively strict. Class sizes are always bigger in the freshman year, but the school puts a max so it's not overcrowded and students have enough time for meaningful critics. I was in the Game Development department (second biggest department) and I always had a comfortable connection with all my teachers.
This means that while teachers while are highly knowledgeable about their subjects, not all of them may know how to teach well. My advice to the Saddleback student would be to seek learning opportunities (work, volunteering) outside of school because you probably won't get it here due to COVID. Lastly, I'd like to point out that their DSPS department is super helpful: I absolutely love my counselor she helps me with all aspects of school and life. Online classes tend to be just an amalgamation of PDFs and internet videos, so no real learning is accomplished. I'm a CDE Major, and the only thing I can say is that I wish more CDE classes were offered in-person instead of online. I drive 20 minutes to come here as opposed to attending my local school because I find that professors are consistently more flexible, people are more interesting, and their music program is the best of its kind. Sophomore: Saddleback College is a great community college to attend, though it should be noted that the on-campus experience (clubs, etc.) has been hampered by COVID-19 and vaccine mandates. Cafeteria food is pretty good compared to other universities.
The librarians are all very knowledgeable and happy to help you with everything you need. The library is well suited to study in as well as in the courtyard and annex attached to it. The residential areas around the campus are very nice to take walks in the afternoon, and there are lots of small nooks around campus to enjoy. If you choose to live on campus, have a car! You'll need it. The housing office is one department that is very clear and helpful. Be emotionally ready to be yelled at and to be treated like a burden. The majority of the staff is really great, but a lot of the staff working in the offices around campus are very rude and hard to work with. Luckily, the freeway is across the street which allows access to the rest of LA. The campus is small and homey but is far removed from the rest of the community. Junior: Woodbury is a very nice school to attend. There are great options, however, I would like a bit more food places to go to. The only thing I will like for a bit of chance would be the food. I also love that your mental health is something huge and very important for everyone at CSUSB. There is always great help in order for you to succeed.
The gym is one of my favorite places to go at when I feel stressed or overwhelmed. There are also many different study rooms you can go to which is something I love because depending on my day, I can either go into a quiet are or an area where's other people around me. It is also a big campus and it is nice to walk by it's huge on campus trees that changes leaves each season.
There is friendly people always wanting to help and say hello. It is very calm and since it is by the mountains, there is always fresh air hitting your face. Sophomore: When I started at CSUSB, I really loved it! It is an amazing school that I completely fell in love with the moment I step foot on it.
